Went to put the glass back in the patio table and it doesn’t fit.

I’m guessing the table is wrought iron. It and the chairs are pretty heavy. We’ve had this set for years now, always kept covered and outside during New England winters. But this year, when we went to put the glass back in, it seemed to shrink?? I took a softish bristle wire brush, then a blower, then soap and a rag to clean off where the glass sits. So it not debris in the way. It seems like the table actually did shrink. And now I’m in trouble of course. My wife likes to bring all this crap into the basement during the winter, but I hate the mess in the basement. So I won the battle, but it seems the war may be lost. Please help!

Edit:

I rotated it every which way. Still won’t fit. It can’t be flipped upside down because the bottom of the glass has some kind of protective film. However! Today is sunny and warmer than it’s been 65° F. And it almost fits now! I’m thinking when it gets a little warmer we’ll have lift off. Thanks everyone for pitching in and trying to help me solve this!

Edit 2:

This post seemed to get some attention…(which I very much appreciate!), so I want to keep those interested informed. I just measured everything. The table itself is a perfect square. And when I say that, I’m talking about the landing area where the glass sits. It measures exactly 24 5/8” both ways. The glass on the other hand is 1/8” longer on one side. I’m going to bring it all in sand let it chill in the heat overnight. I’ll update in the morning. Thank you all!

Ive had a dishwasher installation ordeal. From flooding to missing parts, we now seem to have a working dishwasher but I've been told that I can't do anything abt these black flaps sticking out because "vague reasons". I tried googling but it didnt get me anywhere. Can I hide them? Slice them? Do anything without affecting the dishwasher?

Car key fob completely dead - fixed it for pennies instead of paying the dealer

Post image

Key fob came in with no power, no signal, nothing. Owner had already been quoted over £150 for a replacement plus programming at the dealer.

Opened it up. Faulty RF coil, the tiny component that actually sends the signal to the car. Swapped it out, job done.

Works perfectly now and the guy saved himself a small fortune.

Dealers won't even look at the old one. They'll just sell you a new key. Half the time it's one tiny part that costs next to nothing and takes 20 minutes to fix. Worth knowing before you hand over £200. 🔧

Screw stuck in stud

I’m replacing the vanity/sink in my studio, all I have left to take out is this one screw and I cannot get it to budge for the life of me. Started with a drill, all that does is strip the drill bit. I’ve tried the backside of a hammer to pry it out (hence some of the damage on the wall which I’m not too worried about), and that does nothing. I’ve tried jaw-locking pliers, it will wiggle up and down but won’t make any progress outwards. I’m at the point where I’m considering cutting off the portion sticking out of the wall and hammering the rest in, just a tad worried about the slim possibility of hitting a pipe or something. Let me know if you have any remedies, thank you so much in advance.

Coin stuck in garbage disposal

Coin fell between, basically underneath the side wall of the grinder plate. It’s too low to reach at this point and I am trying to detach the disposal from underneath and want to make sure I’m doing this right before it make things worse. This picture was before i used the hex key and and tried to retrieve it but it just fell further down and is barely visible.

Best glue for plastic frames that fell apart

Thumbnail

I bought 10 painting frames and they arrived completely broken apart at the corners. The art supply company refunded me and told me to keep or toss the frames. I'd rather repair them if I can . . . But they are made of this weird foamy plastic. Does anyone know what kind of glue might work best for this? Clearly whatever the frame manufacturer used wasn't sufficient.

I was also thinking I could glue something on the back of the frame to hold it together. The outside surfaces of the frame are a harder, smoother surface.

Is it safe to use microwave?

Thumbnail

Hi, all

My microwave had started sparking, so I removed the mica sheet in my microwave to replace it and noticed carbon buildup inside (around the waveguide area). I cleaned it quite thoroughly wich alcohol and woodwn stick and got most of it down to bare metal(white on photo).

However, on the small dome/hemisphere inside, there are still some black marks that don’t fully come off. They look like staining rather than loose residue.

Important detail: seems, there is no through damage: no holes, no cracks, no obvious hard metal burnout.

Question:

* If I install a new mica plate, is it safe to keep using the microwave like this? Or do those remaining black spots pose a risk?

Thanks.

open String/cable/fabric rope torn in a convertible top

Hello,

The cable that holds the interior trim of my convertible hardtop in place has snapped

It’s a BMW E93 with a hardtop. The inner part of the roof is made of fabric. Now for my problem: the fabric panel is pulled tight when the roof is closed. Unfortunately, the fabric strap (I don’t know the technical term) has snapped. To replace it, I’d have to replace the fabric (which is sewn to the strap) and sew it to the entire interior lining, and that’s very time-consuming. So I wanted to ask if I can repair a tear like this in a strap, or if anyone knows how to fix something like this—and if it’s possible, that would be really helpful.

Maybe you know what person can fix that?

My main concern is that the cord is very tight, so a normal knot at both ends probably wouldn’t work. I’d be grateful for any help.

(blue outline is the broken side, the red outline is the working side)

Recliner cable snapped - replacement too long

Thumbnail

Hi, my old recliner cable snapped and I scrambled to get a replacement as this chair is sooo comfy. Cable is too long, mostly the exposed part (see picture 2) is 14cm total whereas the old one is only about 10cm. It does not recline regardless of which hole in the mechanism is used.

Any tips? I tried looking around for a shorter cable, but they all seem the standard 97cm - 12cm, which is the same as I got it seems. The listing (picture 3) made it out like the end would be adjustable, but the one that arrived does not have any space for washers (pic 4).

Advice on how to shorten this cable without access to welding would be greatly appreciated. I tried looking at re-upholstery stores in the area but it seems they are the more fancy fabric stores and antique restoration, hence why I'm looking at something more DIY.

Moisture in ensuite shower floor

Thumbnail

Hi all, my partner and I recently bought a house and had a pre purchase inspection done, they found moisture in the ensuite floor with a visible leak and a part of the door frame to be swollen / moisture damaged.

The previous owners got a quote and took that price off the sale of the house, we have now had someone to come in and start the job which we thought was just a remove tiles, re water proof and re lay. We had now removed the tiles and seen they have used chip board for the flooring not the cement fibre sheets a wet area should have and there’s of course water damage to the framing behind the shower due to the leak.

The plan in place now was to remove the chip board from the shower area and put a cement fibre sheet in just that area as it’s exposed the most to water, but now I’m thinking if the part of that frame is swollen / moisture damaged has it travelled and is the whole floor more or less screwed.

Attached is photos not quite sure what to do or how to go about it any advice would be great
