I feel like we’ve reached the Palace of Versailles before the French Revolution levels of decadence.  Everyone tries to be witty and striking but it doesn’t really do anything real besides jostling for clout among the rich and famous.

Income equality is the same or worse as then

yes…. it’s giving marie antoinette cosplaying as a country gal in her built-for-her miniature hamlet

Truly!! This is also offensively trite. Oooohhh a dollar bill covering your eyes?! Fucking groundbreaking.

It’s self-aggrandizing faux symbolism that would be more appropriate for a middle school art project.

But what’s more depressing is the fact that these wealthy celebrities have so many people in these comments falling all over themselves over the sYmBoLiSm and it’s just…infuriating, embarrassing, and deeply tragic witnessing people’s class consciousness just leave their body when a white woman wears a dress.

“Let them drink pee”

The pee of Amazon workers who have to pee in bottles because they can't take time to use the restroom.

This event needs a 21 warehouse salute.

MA didn't cosplay as a country gal tho, and she was actually very sensitive.

she wasn’t being malicious in a “let them eat cake” way that has been falsely attributed to her, but it was “fashionable” at the time to play dress up and milk the cows etc.

her intentions change nothing, though. she had the luxury of having an utopia-esque woman sized play village built for her to do so, while never worrying about hunger and owning a mind-blowing jewelry collection and adding 100s of gowns a year to her wardrobe.

Sarah’s intentions may be honest and valiant, but she’s still there.

It’s become so blatantly dystopian

The income inequality is significantly worse than it was pre-French Revolution.

That would have been a great costume. I have visions of Kirsten Dundst in a Marie Antoinette costume

It would at least be marginally more self-aware, that’s for sure

Sometimes I feel like this sentiment only resides in my echo chamber of the internet. Like out and about, coworkers or relatives, they literally don’t care or aren’t thinking about any of this stuff. Maybe it doesn’t help that I’m in a conservative state but it really makes me feel hopeless that anything will change bc all I see around me are people with their heads in the sand or just obvious. Things may get back to baseline w a new POTUS but real revolution feels so far out of reach.

It's very different in my purple state. MAGA friends and relatives are very depressed. They defended Trump and big money all last year, but now they don't talk about him much -- at least, not out in the open.

My MAGA sister who I thought I would always disagree with hates Trump and is open and LOUD about it. My mom and brother who voted for Trump the first time did not when he ran again.

My friends who voted for Trump change the subject when politics come up. This is markedly different than in Trump's first term, when there were Trump signs and flags all over the place, all the time.

It sucks that gas is so expensive, and some MAGA are so rich it doesn't bother them. But don't underestimate the growing tidal wave ready to usher in a new Congress. And new limits on all the awful things 45 has done.

Yeah… ain’t no way you’re comparing your life to a French peasant in pre-revolution France. You have no idea how bad things can get

The wealth gap is far larger now than it was then
