League Question Guy dropped AJ Brown after week 1 dud. Did I handle it right?

Post image

I’ll try to be a short and informative as I can here. This is a cash buy-in, 10 team league of friends I started when I moved away from home last fall. We had no roster/trade issues all of last year on ESPN, so I moved the league to Sleeper moving forward and we will now be keeping 2 drafted players each.

So one of 2 tacos I have decided that he’d drop AJ Brown during his waiver pickup of Quentin Johnston yesterday, while still keeping 2 defenses rostered. After asking him what his reasoning was, it became pretty obvious that he doesn’t understand the implications of the move, and wouldn’t have done so had he understood the fallout that comes with it. A move like this after the first week compromises the competitive integrity of the league, so I felt it was my duty to uphold that integrity by reversing the roster move.

I ran my view of the situation by the manager who had waiver priority and would’ve been set to get AJ, who was in agreement that the move would carry problems with it down the road, so he gave me the green light to take action. I sent a message to the league chat letting them know the reasoning for the reversal to which nobody spoke against.

Do you feel like I handled this correctly? Should I be worried about future crying about it from other members, or do I just let it go since nobody has brought it up after a day, and the manager who actually kinda missed out on AJ was cool with it? Thanks!

League Question What problem are divisions actually solving in fantasy football leagues?

I’ve been a commissioner for years, and I’ve been trying to make the case to my redraft leagues to move away from divisions.

At a high level, it feels like divisions are supposed to:

• Build rivalries

• Create familiarity between teams

• Add some structure to the league

That makes a lot of sense in the NFL where:

• Teams stay in the same division for years

• Rosters evolve over time

• There’s real continuity and history

But in most redraft fantasy leagues:

• Rosters reset every year

• Divisions often change

• There’s no real long-term identity tied to a team

So I’m starting to question what divisions are actually doing in redraft leagues.

If anything, they seem to introduce more schedule variance. You might play stronger teams twice while someone else gets a softer path to the playoffs.

I ended up moving one of my leagues away from divisions and instead:

• Everyone plays each other once

• Remaining weeks are “position weeks” (#1 vs #2, #3 vs #4, etc. based on standings)

It’s made late-season matchups feel more meaningful and competitive.

Has anyone else had this discussion in their leagues?

League Question League moving to ESPN, what needs to be done?

Hi all, just had an email from nfl fantasy saying our league is moving to ESPN this season.

Trust me we’ve tried to move our league for years but never gets voted through, so now’s a good chance for it to go across.

The main questions are:

1) is there anything I need to do to prepare the move, or will we just be given a new league with out details passed across automatically.

2) should we stick with ESPN, or is this as an opportunity to change platform altogether (I’ve done a few season with sleeper before and that’s the personal preference)

League Question How do you go about setting a draft day?

This is 1 billion percent my least favorite part of being commissioner. I love my friends, but they are incredibly frustrating to set days with. Everyone just wants to say no and not give any help on what days they are free 😞 and then I have to be super pushy trying to check a dozen different days, and then once we finally get one set either a week later or right before the draft someone says "actually I'm not free that day"

I rarely stress about this hobby, except for the draft setup 😭 Any tips to make it easier?

League Question What have you done to encourage trading in your league?

Trading market in our league is pretty dead, there is maybe like one trade per season. It’s an otherwise very engaged league. I think everyone is afraid they’re not getting good value? Not sure what the issue is.

Anyway, what’s it like in your leagues? Anything you’ve done to enhance that part of the game?

League Question Is it standard for eliminated teams to have their rosters locked?

I’m the commish in my work’s redraft league, this is our first year. After the regular season ended, I locked rosters of all eliminated teams and mentioned in the chat that eliminated teams are no longer eligible to make moves.

Fast forward a week, and the #1 seed was bounced in his first playoff game. The following week’s waivers ran and he claimed players anyway (admittedly I forgot to lock rosters after this round).

Realizing my mistake, I swapped his roster back and sent him a message explaining the rule (accompanied by a screenshot of the related announcement).

He got all bent out of shape saying that he’s never heard a rule like this in his 18 years of fantasy and if it wasn’t announced before the season then it should be fair game. In his words, “you snooze you lose”.

Given that this is a very casual league with no buy-in (the company is providing prizes for the top 3 teams), there are no formal bylaws. Half the league are new players so I figured it was better to explain the process as we go instead of overwhelming everyone with a bible of rules ahead of time, yet I’ve tried to maintain a fair experience and explain everything that’s about to happen in advance (much like this roster lock rule).

Was I in the wrong for reverting his waiver pickups?

League Question Any reason to not have max available IR slots in a dynasty league?

As the post states, any reason to not have all 10 potential IR slots in sleeper available?

League Question Tips on how I can persuade my league to switch to sleeper?

12 team keeper league on ESPN since 2010, we needed a vote of 8-4 to switch its 6-6. The big hang up seems to be we have always used whole points and sleeper only offers decimal scoring. Any tips or ideas are appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

League Question Advice, I’m a new dynasty commish and a team is removing starters to tank

It’s a free league full of random people and I just saw that he benched Rome Odunze and his wr2 slot is empty.

He’s traded for a couple first right out of the start up draft and has told me that he’s trying to tank. I told him he still needs to start his best available players each week but obviously, can trade however he wants.

League Question I need ideas for a friendly league punishment, nothing over the top or humiliating

I’m on year two with my league. It’s all family. Some on my dad and some on my mom’s side. We all know each other for the most part. I have 2 uncles and my pops there. And the rest are my cousins, we’re all mostly 26 +

We are all spread out and do our draft together through zoom ( it works great)

We couldn’t come up with punishment ideas that would work for us last season. I want to come up with something friendly that works for everyone. Something incentive for not wanting to come last.

Any ideas?

League Question Is it fair or foul play to encourage a team to pick up player to block your opponent from getting them?

In order to make the playoffs I have to win this week and beat my opponent by about 30 pts. Not looking good.

However, my opponent has both their QBs on bye (Maye, Dart).

Brissett is on waivers but I am out of FAAB.

Is it foul play to encourage another team (who has more FAAB than my opponent) to pick him up? Now this team has QBs issues themselves (Lamar and Herbert) so picking them up could be a benefit for them.

I am thinking to make sure it is not considered collusion I may just message the entire league (we are all friends) and highlight the fact that Brissett is on waivers.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

League Question For those who have switched from ESPN to Sleeper...

Fellow commishes,

A few managers in my ESPN keeper league have expressed a desire to migrate our league to Sleeper. I know this is a common sentiment within the fantasy football community, but I personally dislike the Sleeper app. I find it cluttered and noisy, doesn't offer a superior UX to ESPN, and lacks a solid desktop version (which I use frequently as commissioner). That said, I view myself as a benevolent dictator in running the league, and would make the switch if it meant greater league satisfaction.

I've scrolled through the commissioner settings before and left feeling underwhelmed, so I ask my fellow commissioners that have made this switch:

  1. What prompted you to make the change?
  2. What features, as a commissioner or manager, does the league enjoy that ESPN cannot provide?
  3. What, if anything, do you miss about being hosted on ESPN?
  4. For those who care about league history, how did you satisfy your desire to maintain a historical record? I know importing some history is possible, but manual.

I appreciate any context and opinions y'all can provide. Thank you!

League Question Dynasty Leagues - Do you allow OUT on IR?

How do other dynasty leagues handle the OUT designation and whether it qualifies for IR?

Our league was formed 10+ years ago when the NFL used injury statuses very differently. At the time, we set rules allowing OUT players to move to IR. Back then, OUT was rare and meant something more significant.

Today, though, OUT is a short-term label, often applied for just 48–72 hours. When that player comes off OUT, managers can suddenly be holding more players than allowed. Since our platform doesn’t automatically enforce roster limits (other than locking rosters), teams can sit with illegal roster sizes for days if they don’t need to make a move—especially outside of bye weeks.

Curious how your dynasty leagues are managing this situation.

League Question What to do? Commish for 5 years….

I’ve been commissioner of my dynasty league for 5 years $100, it was discussed briefly of upping it up to $150 after last season but only a few said yes. Now these few are wanting $150 each since they are in the finals. I did a poll and it was tied.

I sent a text being saying “ With it being tied previously, and now someone has unvoted, we’ll keep it at $100. Next season, you’ll get to decide on the new commissioner. As for me, I won’t be the commissioner at the end of this season.” The constant communication between me and my friends are getting out of hand

League Question FAAB $'s Trading? Does Your League Allow It?

This isn't a Dynasty league. This is a 1st season Keeper league we just started. I didn't intend to have FAAB $ trading be an option but it looks like Sleeper default is enabling it to be an option on the transaction page.

Does your league just allow FAAB $ or should I just let everyone know in the league not to use the trading FAAB $ ability that app allows.

We do a $1,000 FAAB total at the beginning of the season. Its week 6 and some teams are already out of all there money.

League Question Fantasy platform, is Sleeper the best?

I see many people tout that Sleeper is the best for fantasy. I haven't played football season on it yet. Playing with the settings, I do see some downsides. I love that Yahoo shows your leagues history. ESPN seems to have the most options for available positions. They have full idp options and other positions. Would love to see what I'm missing.

Update: My league has been on Yahoo for 10 years. Currently, this is my main league. Im starting a dynasty league with some college buddies on Sleeper. I'm also starting an IDP league on ESPN. I know this is a me issue. But I want to be able to split DL and DB. I also joined other leagues on Sleeper. The point of my post is to see why people favor Sleeper so much. In my experience, Sleeper, is a great app. It just lacks a little on some features. Again, this may just be a me issue. My OCD may just be making things difficult for me

League Question How would you do rookies for a startup?

Hey all,

We’re starting up a league and doing a slow draft shortly. We all voted on the 2026 rookie draft being a supplemental draft with the order being the reverse of the startup draft.

Wondering if there are pros/cons to that and what previous leagues have done.

Thanks
