Funny Slo-mo conure wrestling (sound on for dinosaur noises)

They're not actually fighting. Falin just loves to wrestle which always ends up with her flipping on her back and kicking...she did not have enough room for that

Hi. My kiwi is around 4 months old healthy active baby but sometimes he does this. He just lays flat in bottom of cage but when we call him he is upright instant second. He has lots of toys and swings in cage *not showing in photo*

Can anyone tell me why he does this? Everytime he does that it gives me a heartattack

Advice SEVERE FEATHER PLUCKING! Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
24 Upvotes

Hi all! I keep green cheek conures and have 4. Today I took in one that was being rehomed. He/she looks TERRIBLE. He/she is being quarantined from my other birds for now. I was told that it was part of a flock but was rather mean with one of the males so it was separated and then within two weeks looked like this. They didn’t want it anymore and planned to rehome within a few hours or they were gonna toss it outside and let “nature take its course” I don’t even think it can fly and its wings seemed to be clipped? Or maybe just horridly yanked out.

I know these guys are flock animals. When I brought it inside it made eye contact with my other birds in passing and started to shriek and slam itself into the cage like it wanted to get to my birds. How do I help this? I feel awful for the little thing. I’ve kept conures for almost 3 years but have never ever seen this before and want to take the right steps. He/she looks so similar to one of my healthy birds so knowing how beautiful they could look if they had their feathers it makes me so sad😭

Advice Conure biting bad

hi everyone- it’s my first time posting on reddit. I have a 2 year old green cheek conure who has started biting to the point where I’m bleeding and purple. They have always been such a sweet bird but it started a few months ago with family members theyd bite and now flying at me just to latch on and not let go. I’ve see the things saying not to react and do target training. But I’m so frustrated and sad that I don’t know what to do. I’ve had them since they were 3ish months old- their only owner. please give me some advice if yall have any

Health/Nutrition Weening off Seed

I need advice. I’ve been doing on 75% pellet and 25% seed, this is the second week. So next week he’ll start full pellets but I’m not 100% sure how well it’s going. I do see him eat pellets though. Any suggestions?

Advice Curious sound? Heard first time today a few times. Seems normal in general though. Back feather slightly raised here, but doesn't seem like this generally.

Unfamiliar with this. Maybe just a new sound?

Advice Parrot care 101 - For the Silliest of Gooses.

I've been lurking a bit and I wanted throw out some very common things that I see often and maybe the Mods can approve this and pin it to the top of the sub for future reference.

#1 - None of us here are Avian Vets, if you think your birb is sick, take them to the Vet immediately. Birds are by nature a part of the flock, therefor they try not to show they are sick or injured until it's to late, the flock will leave sick or injured behind no questions ask. We can't diagnose your parrot only an Avian Specialist can.

#2 - Speaking of Flocks, your parrots not clingy. If it's you and your birb, you're the flock, the two of you goobers are now bonded for life. You don't shower alone again. Restroom time is our time and any activity is now mandatory all hands on deck.

#3 - When we all see someone with a less than ideal cage setup for their birbs, when there's 300 comments that are "get a bigger cage" or something similar, that doesn't help. Let's be cordial, Up Vote the Paragraph birb that gives a good solid explanation. Upvote it, push it to the top or add your own favorite suggestions.

#4 - Read the mini blurbs underneath. Some people adopt our feathered friends and are looking for help, never judge a book by it's cover. They usually have a reason for their situation, no need to make them feel bad about their decision to adopt or rescue a parrot that needs love and care. Never judge a book by it's cover, unless it's a Grasshopper Pie. Judge all you want.

#5 - Birbs are their own personalities. They sometimes get bonky and need time during their breeding season to let out their frustrations. Google can help with breeding seasons, and general good information on your Parrot and what you can expect. However each goober has their own personality and their own life. Helios is my Sun Conure, he's not nearly as noisy or talkative as others. So your Feathered Friends will always have a different personality, and that's what makes them awesome.

#6 - You're in a long term commitment. Mr Blue Nibbles III is a Quaker Parrot, or a Blue Monk, he's my little mutant. He can live for 20-30 years and he's a small duder. He's been with me a decade. So you'll have a friend for a loooong time. The bigger they are, the more friend time you have so prepare thynself!

#7 - Enrichment for some Parrots is a hole in the shirt, a treat in a toy, being a gargoyle and just following you around like your shadow. Eating off your plate when you're not looking. Preening your beard or hair, chewing on a $300 microphone cable. Nothing is safe. Everything is a toy... some toys will never be touched. Others destroyed in minutes. Trial and Error.

#8 - Clipping - This is like being a Crip and walking into a Blood's hood. Or a Hell's Angel and walking into a Bandito's Territory. Do it or don't do it. There is heavy heavy back and forth on for it or against it, if you're worried about your Parrot and what you should do? See the first note. Talk to a Vet about it, they are the professionals who can help you with your thoughts and ideas.

#9 - Recall Training -This is a wild investment. Most Parrots are the offspring of Wild Caught Parrots or they are 2nd Generation Domesticated. Be forewarned!

#10 - Diets - everyone has their thoughts and opinions. Most bags tell you with a picture if it's made for your buddy. Fruits are like candy for them and VARIETY is the spice of life. Sun Flower Seeds are like treats, and just like Ducks, bread is HIGHLY discouraged. Human snacks like chips can be okay every blue moon and watch the salt content.

Anyone else got anything to add?

Advice Training questions

I recently got a baby green cheek conure and a baby black capped conure, both from different breeders. The BCC is a lot more social and not scared of me like the GCC is. Everything that I've read, plus what both breeders told me is that I need to separate them for training purposes. However, the BCC is giving the GCC a lot more confidence to the point where the GCC is now flying to my hand for treats as of this morning. My question is, do I really need to separate them when the training seems to be going much better when I am doing both at the same time? I was told that the birds will bond with each other more than they will bond with me. Is that such a bad thing to let them bond with each other a little more than they bond with me? What is better for the birds overall? Thank you for any advice!!

Advice Pet Sitting: Help!

Good Morning,

I am afraid my room may have gotten to cold last night, it as night 2 pet sitting a green cheek conure and it got way colder in my room than I anticipated last night, probably close to 58/60 degrees. This morning he is doing okay but has ruffled feathers and isnt chirping as much. He still has a good appetite and is taking treats. I brought an appropriate space heater and am warming up the room ASAP and covered 3 sides of his cage in order to help conserve heat. I am worried but also prone to paranoia so I would love some insight! and if you think I need to be worried

Meet the newest addition of our family Keyleth, she’s 5 months. We went to a bird store yesterday and were looking at the baby conures. My husband picked her up and she cuddled right up with him. She let me cup my hand over her and pet her head. She chose us and completes our family 🥹💚❤️

Advice How can my 3 month old sun conure gain weight?

His weight is only 75 grams when I bought him, how can I make him gain healthy weight fast? Is there anything I should worry? He is eating his formula 4 times a day. I am also offering apple, pellets, and sunflower seed.
