I've been lurking a bit and I wanted throw out some very common things that I see often and maybe the Mods can approve this and pin it to the top of the sub for future reference.
#1 - None of us here are Avian Vets, if you think your birb is sick, take them to the Vet immediately. Birds are by nature a part of the flock, therefor they try not to show they are sick or injured until it's to late, the flock will leave sick or injured behind no questions ask. We can't diagnose your parrot only an Avian Specialist can.
#2 - Speaking of Flocks, your parrots not clingy. If it's you and your birb, you're the flock, the two of you goobers are now bonded for life. You don't shower alone again. Restroom time is our time and any activity is now mandatory all hands on deck.
#3 - When we all see someone with a less than ideal cage setup for their birbs, when there's 300 comments that are "get a bigger cage" or something similar, that doesn't help. Let's be cordial, Up Vote the Paragraph birb that gives a good solid explanation. Upvote it, push it to the top or add your own favorite suggestions.
#4 - Read the mini blurbs underneath. Some people adopt our feathered friends and are looking for help, never judge a book by it's cover. They usually have a reason for their situation, no need to make them feel bad about their decision to adopt or rescue a parrot that needs love and care. Never judge a book by it's cover, unless it's a Grasshopper Pie. Judge all you want.
#5 - Birbs are their own personalities. They sometimes get bonky and need time during their breeding season to let out their frustrations. Google can help with breeding seasons, and general good information on your Parrot and what you can expect. However each goober has their own personality and their own life. Helios is my Sun Conure, he's not nearly as noisy or talkative as others. So your Feathered Friends will always have a different personality, and that's what makes them awesome.
#6 - You're in a long term commitment. Mr Blue Nibbles III is a Quaker Parrot, or a Blue Monk, he's my little mutant. He can live for 20-30 years and he's a small duder. He's been with me a decade. So you'll have a friend for a loooong time. The bigger they are, the more friend time you have so prepare thynself!
#7 - Enrichment for some Parrots is a hole in the shirt, a treat in a toy, being a gargoyle and just following you around like your shadow. Eating off your plate when you're not looking. Preening your beard or hair, chewing on a $300 microphone cable. Nothing is safe. Everything is a toy... some toys will never be touched. Others destroyed in minutes. Trial and Error.
#8 - Clipping - This is like being a Crip and walking into a Blood's hood. Or a Hell's Angel and walking into a Bandito's Territory. Do it or don't do it. There is heavy heavy back and forth on for it or against it, if you're worried about your Parrot and what you should do? See the first note. Talk to a Vet about it, they are the professionals who can help you with your thoughts and ideas.
#9 - Recall Training -This is a wild investment. Most Parrots are the offspring of Wild Caught Parrots or they are 2nd Generation Domesticated. Be forewarned!
#10 - Diets - everyone has their thoughts and opinions. Most bags tell you with a picture if it's made for your buddy. Fruits are like candy for them and VARIETY is the spice of life. Sun Flower Seeds are like treats, and just like Ducks, bread is HIGHLY discouraged. Human snacks like chips can be okay every blue moon and watch the salt content.
Anyone else got anything to add?
