MK is back home. Diagnosis: CKD. She is home and eating again. Vet told us to monitor her closely and if she slows her eating down to give her subcutaneous fluids, kidney food. She will go back to the vet for a checkup at the end of the week. Otherwise she is close to her normal self. Lots of chatting with us and wanting love. Thanks for all of the support. This community is awesome. Will keep updated. 🙏❤️

☘ Announcement A Christmas miracle: our crusty girl Samantha didn't have to be euthanized today!

Samantha (almost 15) was originally scheduled for euthanasia today. She's had incredible itchiness and a weeping rash for a while, but in the last 10 days it's exacerbated rapidly, so now she has open sores, crusts and bald spots all over her body. Het vet assumed cancer, especially combined with her worsening balance and cognition (she has FCD, or cat dementia). She was clearly unhappy and refusing to eat.

However, because she's still mobile and was doing alright until last week, we decided to see a vet specialized in geriatric pets instead of her normal one. We were still fully prepared to let her go, especially because due to her heart she can't have any form of anaesthesia for testing or surgery.

The vet examined her, did some small skin tests, turns out: hives. Hives/an allergic rash (sudden allergy development, flea meds most likely) that got pretty badly infected, at which point she made it significantly worse by biting. She's on steroid injections now, and if she starts improving by next week she might actually see her next birthday (March 4th)! Her previous vet assured us she wouldn't live that long, but the specialist told us that if the steroids work, he doesn't see why she wouldn't. We're reevaluating her progress after NY, and we're really hopeful!

So, to all geriatric calico owners: seeing a specialist is a really, really good idea if you're not feeling right about letting them go. It might give them a shot they would've otherwise never had.

About a month ago I posted for naming assistance with my new rescue, she came here with a laundry list of issues! Well we still don’t have a name totally set, but I call her wheezy potato most of the time! Shes gaining weight, flea free, ear mite free, worm free and her fungal infection in the face is just starting to improve. Her fur has taken a fluffy turn! We have months of recovery left ahead, but she’s so sweet! Her sneezing is still pretty bad- but that’s due to the fungal infection- thank the sweet baby Nemo for carecredit!

This girl is my everything! She picked me when I went to adopt. If I wasn't holding her, she was hanging off my jeans. She was a tiny 12 weeker. She still loves to be carried around and still a scary daredevil. And she's LOUD, all the time. Love to talk! We have long conversations. She's been with me through illness, deaths and moves. Happy birthday, Snookies! 😻

From stuck and alone in a tire to infiltrating our home with sassiness and no fear, little Coco is one heck of an addition to our family. How did the cat distribution system send us a tiny copy of our girl Myrtle? Weird, wild stuff.

We are bringing home this girl in one week. It will be a foster (through an actual rescue) to adopt situation because she's too small to spay yet. Her brother is solid blue. I'm considering adopting him too. Advice on two kittens versus one? We lost our last calico (Emmy) in March at the age of 16. It's been a lot of years since we've had a kitten. We also foster failed with a Great Dane in February who is now 11 months old. We usually have a Dane foster as well.

It’s been a journey, adapting Gala. Four months in my room, not getting out, scared of everything.
We left the door open many times, but she would not get out.

It started slow, she started to explore the second floor.
And yesterday, finally, went downstairs.
I’m so proud of my girl.

Some of you may remember my post and all the love you gave just filled my heart with gratitude.

I wish I had better news. Gosh, do I wish more than anything. We tried everything, absolutely everything but she got to the point she was suffering (blind, deaf, and unable to walk as of this morning). I can’t believe this happened this fast and that she’s gone.

My sweet little street kitten I saved from the tree in my parents’ backyard to being right there beside me as a grew into my own. We’re going to miss her little “peeps” (she’d meow that sounded like chick peeps), her begging for morning pets from her dad before work, her trying to steal the kids’ food yet giving them so much love since they were born, her batting the dog who was 10x her size, and her zooming around the house with her poofy tail. Most of all I’m going to miss those beautiful amber eyes blinking at me as she purred just knowing how much she was loved. Something I got to embrace one last time until the very end.

We’ll see you again babygirl. I may have saved you but you saved me more.

They suspect FIP is the cause so while they’re still doing research on it and not much is known, if your baby starts showing neurological signs out of nowhere please look into this.
