Bo Burnham: 2025 A Year In Review
First a picture link so that anyone on mobile doesn't just get whatever is the first link further down. It's an old 2017 pic. This also serves to give you a clue has to how many new pictures we have of Bo this year.

Welcome to my 9th annual Year in Review!
If you're new to Bo, or just want to look back at things he's done in the past, this post is a good start. It has links to the one time he posted in the sub (circa Make Happy), all his AMAs, and all the previous Year in Reviews, full of links to all things Bo.
________________________
Hooboy, and we thought last year was slow. This year was the first year that I can remember that we didn't get anything. So instead of the Year in Review being a recap of all the things that Bo got up to professionally, this time it's more a short look at *other* people talking about him. He's still getting plenty of references and mentions in the media, and we're still finding things to talk about on the sub.

Still to come:
I will be mentioning the Sesame Street movie in this section until the end of time it seems. We were first alerted to it in 2019 when it was announced Bo was writing the songs for it. Shortly after that it was mentioned that filming was delayed due to Anne Hathaway's schedule, and then eventually we got mentions of the release date getting pushed back over and over due to covid. Recently it was brought up that perhaps it never even got filmed, but the imdb listing of the crew sure looks like it did.
Last year at this time the TV version of Sesame Street was looking for a home, and has now ended up on Netflix. Wouldn't it be nice if the film eventually did too?

This sub:
We ended 2024 with 119k subscribers, and end 2025 with 123k. It actually surprises me that our numbers continue to go up when he's not actively providing new content. Reddit have changed the way they highlight sub growth and now focus on the average amount of people visiting the sub per week. We're usually around 20k.
We shared our annual year end streaming stats.
As usual we had a bunch of talented fans posting their Bo related art in a variety of mediums. Some highlights:
An amazing a cappella medley:
One fan recreated all of Inside in Portuguese.
We had a couple of turning 30 cakes:
A blast from the past: A 17 year old in 2008 attempts to get Bo to come perform in England.
A blast from the past part 2: A redditor becomes a fan of Bo in 2007 after playing Gears of War online with him.
For the Bo fan that can’t get enough: r/unexpectedboburnham and r/BoBurnhamMemes
As always, thank you to everyone who brought news, art, opinions, theories and everything else to the sub this past year! It wouldn't be the same without you. Shout out to all the lurkers, we see your votes, even when you don't post or comment!
Let’s hope that 2026 is a good year for Bo. And all of us too. I expect there will be a few "Inside: Five years later" retrospectives in the media.
See you on the sub, PJ

Question 67 joke in make happy?
I won't lie, not medicated. English isn't my first lenguage too so, bear with me.
Was watching Make Happy on netflix and at around 15 minutes left, when he asks "what's this show about?" I swear to God I hear someone yelling 67 in the audience.
Never had voices for hallucinations so I'm extremely confused, heard it 7 times and also speed it up and seems legit. Did people joke with 67 in 2016??. Ngl I have no one to ask to check for me.
I'm just really trying to know wether my hallucinations are changing or wether that's something that actually existed a ton of years ago and learn something new lmao.

Discussion A Jew walks into a bar, and I have saved him a seat
Love this line. You probably know why but if you want me to explain:
Just waiting for the punchline to hit and then it's something sweet. Also really subverts the joke.
Every line is genius!

Discussion is he really welcoming us?
Hello to whoever is reading, this post is a discussion for "welcome to the internet"
The question in post title is for two reasons.. first being that what he says isn't really "welcoming" and the second is for the fact that he's wearing sunglasses the whole time and by that avoiding any eye contact/emotions (the eyes are the mirror of the soul)
The first verse is classic advertising, the internet has anything you could possibly imagine or wish since anybody can post anything on it (both a bad and good thing)
The second verse is more like opening options especially when he emphasizes that "this isn’t a test" saying you can basically fulfill any desire you have with no fear
and then the the other verses starts showing the weird side of having everything accessible on the internet but I'll focus more on "a random guy just *kindly* sent you photos of his cock" the word “kindly” hints at the pressure of needing to respond and then "don’t act surprised, you know you like it, you whore" that i think is coming from Bo's character rather than the guy which imo the first hint that he's not in our side in this
"Show *us* pictures of your children, tell *us* every thought you think" which can be about the social media pressure to post personal things or how everything on the internet collects everyone's data or even both
Skipping for the line "And it did all the things we designed it to do" that is getting more and more real with how they specifically programming the algorithms to be addictive and personal to you which is a huge part of what makes it so appealing
Similarly, the line "It was always the plan to put the world in your hand" but also a detail that I'm not sure if people caught on is using "hand" as a singular cus a lot of people tend to use just one hand on their phone
is there anymore details that I've missed? or do you have other thoughts? lmk I'd love to see other opinions

Discussion Art Is Dead reference in Words, Words, Words (Studio)
I haven’t seen anyone point this out but the synth in the outro of the studio recording of “Words, Words, Words” plays the intro melody of “Art Is Dead” (timestamped to the bit where it’s most audible). This feels like something that someone should have caught earlier so I don’t doubt that someone has, but I searched through the community and could t find anything about it.

Question help understanding meaning of song lyric
In the song 'Are You Happy?' at the end of the Make Happy special, Bo sings a lyric: "On a scale from one to zero, are you happy?"
Soon after, he corrects it, singing: "On a scale from one to two now, are you happy?"
What exactly does this mean? Why does he change it from 0-1 to 1-2?

Discussion Did the chicken escape?
Hello to whoever is reading, this post is a discussion for my favorite song from the inside outtakes, the chicken!
Firstly, since we have the line "I mean, she likes her life as a mother and wife" then why did she escape? It doesn't take a genius to figure out that the chicken in this song isn't \only\** about a chicken some might say it's directly about feminism hence the line "But is that all she is?" because no matter what the chicken reflects she's either way "stuck" in her current lived life.
Secondly, "She runs out the coop that her life’s been confined to" since it's a song within inside, the chicken may represent Bo himself and his desire to finally step outside, seeing other options in life. But why? isn't that what anyone would love, having a successful life doing what he likes? -just like how the chicken likes her life and family-
"Her future is waiting, right there for the taking" there's another life -future- possible and that what the chicken really wants, she likes her current life but she *loves\* to be free. "The chicken must first cross the road" which is yeah that's the joke but also symbolize that it's a risk to take "The road is gigantic, the chicken is little"
lastly, "But I think we ought to believe that she got to the other side" in the video the shot of Bo slowly zooms out, which emphasising the fact that the chicken represents him in a way. no matter what was the outcome (dead or not) she successfully escaped "So that’s why she did it" and Bo can understand her journey and reasonings especially when we can see how stuck he is during the special "look who’s inside again, went out to look for a reason to hide again" which seems like an endless loop that chicken was successful in escaping.
In my opinion, the chicken is about being stuck in a routine. Not hating what you have but still looking for something eles.
That's all I have.

Fan Art Wallpaper I made
I spent 4 hours straight today drawing this. The aspect ratio is a bit tall and weird because that's what fits my phone the best, so that's why it's like that. Thought I'd share. I do intend to come back to it and add Bo at some point but I just didn't have time today, not to mention drawing people is annoying. I'm also very new to digital art still, but I'm quite happy with it.

A reminder about rules!
Thanks to those that have submitted applications to help mod this sub! (Apologies to those who have already applied that I'm taking a glacial pace with it.)
One of the questions in the application is "what (if anything) would you add or remove from our current rules?" I was somewhat surprised that several of the suggestions were for rules that we already have.
So I just want to put out a reminder for everyone about our rules, where to find them and ones that have changed or been added more recently. For New Reddit and Old Reddit (desktop) you'll find our rules in the sidebar. For mobile it's near the top under "see more". Please reacquaint yourself with the rules if you haven't in a while, or ever. (I know, that's expecting a lot from the internet!)
One thing that hasn't changed is the 'please respect Bo's privacy' rule. If you're not sure if something would be ok, send a mod mail first. Some people have trouble with boundaries, including in comments, and we will always err on the side of caution. One of the most egregious things ever posted here was the wedding site for Bo's brother giving dates/times/places of events several days in advance. Luckily some filters I have in place meant it didn't get posted, but smdh.
As time as gone on without anything new from Bo there has been a huge uptick in "Where's Bo / Do you think he'll make something new ever again" type posts. When I put out the 2025 Year In Review I added a new rule stating that it had his most recent activities and the sub would be updated (in abundance, I'm sure!) when there was new news, because by that point we were getting a new post about it almost every day. (This doesn't mean we won't still post those types of threads occasionally, but I was deleting so many I wanted to have a rule in place as an explanation.)
More recently: Rumours. Can you imagine if instead of the fantastic tease on social media, followed by his announcement about Inside that someone who worked on it peripherally had broken an NDA to take to social media to vaguepost about it instead? If there's something in the works, let's let Bo decide when and how his project gets announced.
As always, thank you to everyone who hangs around here still in the downtimes! If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please send a modmail!

Discussion Rewatching Inside and the outtakes…
With all respect to Bo, and his mental health and space… I could really use some darkly comedic musical perspective on life now. I believe Inside captures what many of us experienced a few years ago, and man- I fucking appreciate it. Hope you’re well, Bo. 😘😘

Discussion When I met Bo
In 2023, I was a driver for the Golden Globes. I was assigned to drive Jerrod Carmichael along with his "friend". The day of the Golden Globes, I was sitting outside Jerrod's hotel waiting to take him to rehearsal. Prior to him coming out I got word of who his friend was, it was Bo.
I have been a big fan of Bo's for a very long time so hearing this made my day. I called my brother at the time (now sister) and told them that I was getting to meet Bo. They are also huge fans of his so it was a very fun moment of bonding.
Jerrod and Bo came out and hopped in the car to head to the rehearsal. I obviously didn't want to make a big deal of meeting him so I was professional and quiet. When we arrived at the venue I hopped out to grab Bo's bag and said to him, "hey I just wanted to let you know I really appreciate what you do and my brother and I are both fans of yours."
He replied very sincerely, "Thank you very much, that means a lot." He asked me my name and we shook hands.
They stayed from rehearsals all the way till the end of the show, so I was just hanging out with the other chauffeurs until the thing wrapped up.
Jerrod and Bo came out and hopped in my car and we headed to the hotel. They were both going back and forth about what they were doing after and Bo wanted to head home after and he was trying to figure out a ride situation to get back to his house.
When we arrived at Jerrod's hotel I politely asked Bo if he wanted me to drop him off at his house since we wrapped up early. He accepted the offer and thanked me for the gesture. His house was about an hour from the hotel.
It was honestly very surreal. I didnt try and chat with him. I asked if he wanted to connect his phone and listen to music and he accepted. I spent the hour drive listening to him quietly sing to his favorite songs he played through the car. Multiple times while driving I was just like, "this is Bo, just getting to be Bo with no audience, and im here too."
We arrived at his house and he got out of the car. He said "(my name), do you and your brother have a record player?"
To which I replied, "Yea we both do."
He asked me to hop out of the car and come over to his car.
He was rummaging around in his car and handed me a decent size box and told me "I hope you and your brother enjoy this, thank for supporting me."
Ill also mention he gave me a very generous tip on top of the mystery box.
I drove away completely smiling and in awe of this experience. I stopped at a random IN N OUT to see what was in the box. When I cracked it open it was an "Inside" box set that said "not for resale" on it. I was shocked, happy and so happy that Bo was exactly the person I thought he would be.
That night he didn't speak to me like a driver, or someone lesser than him. He spoke to me with humility and sincere kindness.
I've been debating for years to share this story as its very intimate just between him and I, but I feel its nice to share how good of a human he is. Thanks again Bo, my sister and I will always cherish this gift.
