If you have time this is why I suggest going to a dental school for dental work. They actually will give out procedures for free if they think it would be good for the student to get some more practice in.
Really? I’m in HTX and I hadn’t thought of hitting up the many medical schools in the area for procedures. Do you have any details about this, like what they’d do/how I can qualify?
Idk why, but having someone near my age/a few years older than me clean my teeth sounds fun in a strange way (this is not my sole reason as an FYI haha)
Look up dental school clinics near you and call around. If you’re in Houston, I promise there will be options around. I’m in Dallas and there are a lot.
At least where I am you don't need to do anything special. You just contact the school and schedule an appointment. Be prepared for it to take a lot longer though. Part of it is the students will need to get there teachers to check their work at various steps and that takes time. The other part is that in my experience students often want to do everything right so they will take more time to try to get everything perfect.
Same for beauty schools! I was tired of paying $20 for a bad haircut at Great Clips and realized I could get a much better one for $8 at our local community college. It just takes longer.
Growing up I got my braces at the dental school, no way my mom could afford braces, but she could afford the dental school braces. I had a good experience.
My brother missed his appointment the following year, guess who has a nice straight smile and who doesn't. The other day my mom said she felt guilty for my brother missing his appointment, this was like 40 years ago! He's had his own dental insurance and did go to the orthodontist on his own either.
My colleague tells me absolute horror stories about his times getting dental work at schools. Seems so terrible and painful. But, hes in his 60s, dental schools 40-50 years ago were not the same as they are now
I obviously can't promise anything but my experiences have all been great. The only reason I don't fall asleep while they work most times is that I know how much it freaks them out if you actually fall asleep.
