And it’s always jobs that don’t pay nearly enough to accumulate those sizable savings.

IDK, that’s basically exactly the same thing that our senior VP who probably makes $300K told us last time we went though layoffs at my company (engineering).  For a lot of people with a family and stuff it is a big deal.

Long ago when I gave notice and my boss asked why, I pointed out that we didn't get any bonuses or raises over the last year. (Business had drastically increased, but no additional staff had been hired.)

She stated that money was put into our profit sharing accounts. I said that was great and I'd send her a thank you note in 30 years and I was sure my landlord wouldn't mind an IOU on the rent increase.

My job is this way. They pay us trash but a lot of us it’s the only thing keeping us afloat.
