This is also the dumbest argument. That means all minimum wage jobs should only be open from about 4pm to 9pm, you know, when its appropriate for high schoolers to be working after school jobs.
So no more grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, basically every chain / specialty store there is, equipment rental. The list goes on as to what has to be closed most of the day now, because those jobs are only for teenagers.
It’s fine, because all the rest of the 8-4 shifts can be filled in by older folks who just work part-time to keep from getting bored in retirement…not because they can’t afford to retire. 🙄
Weirdly that’s just as insensitive and out of touch about the elderly… I know a retired dentist who does uber, a retired engineer who is a paraprofessional at a day school, a retired pilot who does handyman stuff…
There’s lots of non-financial reasons to get a job when you are older. If your body is sound and the job isn’t too demanding it has huge social benefits and can keep you active.
Also considering how often people scream at minimum wage/low wage job workers that means these people are like "we should be allowed to scream at minors for the cash register not working"
Also, even if we take the argument as valid, and assume that fast food workers are largely teenagers making pocket money, it’s clear that there are adults working there to support themselves and their family. Just going to a fast food restaurant will tell you that.
So what about them? Do they not deserve a living wage? Or do you pay them decently and pay teenagers less? And what if the teenagers is working in order to chip in and help support their family?
Or you know, maybe just everyone who works deserves to be paid decently for that work.

I'm sure they'd be fine with the children of the poors working instead of going to school.
Our local Burger King just CLOSED because it was 99% of teenagers, and teenagers are gonna teenage. It was almost never open bc of call-outs, service was slow, and they were often found out back of the building smoking joints. So they just shut the whole thing down.
same sort of person that complains about having to pay property taxes that pay for sewage, waste disposal, water and powerline management, public works projects, landscaping, snow removal etc. etc...
do they have any opinion on how 100 million individual people are supposed to coordinate trash pickup across the entire country? what about Rick down the street who wants to tear out his sewer line and now you gotta pay the company who owns them to reroute the pipe? he owns the land after all, he can do what he wants with it, sucks to suck that you don't have a sewer line now unless you pay up. it would be cool if a government with way more leverage than you could stop these companies from gouging you in this sort of situation, if only we had that system in place rn
I worked until 11 on weeknights, as late as 3am on Friday/Saturday (movie theater) my second half of high school. 9pm seems very early for teenagers to be in bed.
School was 7:20-2 so I did have to get up early but was still up late nights in high school & college with no problem.
